“Beauty Now Matters More Than “Talent”—Actress Shine Rosman Criticises Nollywood Casting Culture
Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has claimed that many Nigerian filmmakers now prioritise beauty over acting talent when casting actresses.
Speaking on the Baaj and Paul podcast, Rosman said the pressure to fit beauty standards has pushed some actresses into cosmetic surgeries and body enhancement procedures.
“Beauty has been overly glorified,” she said, alleging that some people secure movie roles based on appearance rather than skill.
“Majority of Nollywood filmmakers prioritise beauty over talent. There are good directors who regard only talent but to be honest, majority prefer beauty to talent. That is why you see a lot of movie stars doing surgeries to enhance their bodies,” she claimed.
She urged industry stakeholders to return focus to talent in order to protect the future and quality of Nollywood.
