“Demolish Corrupt Politicians’ Mansions Too” — Sowore Tells Government
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called on the Federal Government to extend the demolition of properties linked to crime to include mansions owned by corrupt politicians.
His comments followed the demolition of a house in Ibadan by the Oyo State Government after it was allegedly used by kidnappers to hold the sister of a former Minister of Power and her twin sons captive.
Reacting to the development, Sowore argued that if properties connected to kidnapping can be destroyed, the same standard should apply to assets acquired through the looting of public funds.
“Public treasury looting is a form of kidnapping too. It kidnaps healthcare, education, jobs, infrastructure, and the future of millions of Nigerians,” he said.
Sowore maintained that mansions and assets allegedly built with stolen public funds should face the same consequences as properties used for other criminal activities, insisting that the law must be applied equally to all offenders.
His post reads
”There is no reason why the demolition of houses should be limited only to k!dnappers.
If the government truly believes that property acquired through or used for criminal activity should be destroyed immediately, then the same principle must apply to politicians, Public treasury looting is a form of k!dnapping too, it k!dnaps healthcare, education, jobs, infrastructure, and the future of millions of Nigerians.
Public officials, and other powerful individuals who steal public funds to build mansions and acquire vast assets should have their mansion demolished.”
