Tiwa Savage Addresses Criticism Over Silence on Insecurity

Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has responded to public pressure regarding her perceived silence on Nigeria’s worsening security crisis. In an interaction with a fan on Instagram, the singer explained that her decision to maintain a lower profile on national issues is not driven by indifference, but by the intense hostility and “crucifixion” she faced after previously voicing her opinions.

“When I spoke I was crucified for it, but trust me, that won’t stop me from still being active,” she wrote. Addressing those who interpret her silence as apathy, she added, “Just know that just because you might not see my post about it does not mean I am not doing anything. I just don’t have to validate my actions; God sees.”

Her comments come amid a wave of public discourse urging prominent entertainers to use their platforms to condemn the surge in kidnappings, banditry, and violence, most notably the May 15 abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State. While figures like Davido have recently joined the call for celebrities to be more vocal, others, including singer Portable, have highlighted the personal risks and potential for state-backed intimidation that entertainers face when criticizing the government.

The pressure on Tiwa Savage has been compounded by ongoing online scrutiny regarding her personal association with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu. Critics have frequently used this friendship to question her objectivity and willingness to speak out against the current administration’s policies. Despite these persistent accusations of complicity, the singer maintains that her advocacy continues through private channels, away from the scrutiny of the public eye.
