Bode George Faults Adeboye’s Security Ultimatum, Directs Responsibility to President Tinubu

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has publicly critiqued the recent suggestion by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, that security chiefs should be given a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorists or resign. In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, 2026, George argued that while the clergyman’s frustration with the nation’s escalating insecurity is understandable, the directive is misdirected. He maintained that service chiefs operate under a clear chain of command and that the ultimate constitutional responsibility for national security rests solely with the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Tinubu.

George emphasized that the President holds the power to appoint, supervise, and dismiss service chiefs, asserting that if the security architecture is failing, accountability must be sought from the person at the top of the chain of command, not the subordinates. He explained that bypassing the Presidency to issue ultimatums to military heads could create confusion and undermine established operational structures. Using the analogy of a newspaper, George stated that it is the work of the editor—not an outsider—to ensure that line editors are performing their duties effectively, and if they fail, it is the editor who is ultimately held responsible.

The retired military officer also urged President Tinubu to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive, intelligence-driven action. He called for the President to convene a high-level security meeting involving retired military officers, intelligence experts, and serving security chiefs to fundamentally overhaul Nigeria’s security strategy. George stressed that with improved intelligence gathering, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and better equipment, the nation should be capable of tackling insurgency decisively within a 60-day timeframe. He concluded by warning that the persistent insecurity, which continues to see students and teachers abducted, is an embarrassment to the country and a critical failure that threatens the nation’s democratic future and stability.
