Mourinho Makes Two Demands to Real Madrid Ahead of Return
Jose Mourinho has reportedly set two key conditions for Real Madrid as the club prepares to officially announce him as their next manager for the 2026/27 campaign.
After reaching a final agreement to leave Benfica and return to the Santiago Bernabéu, the 63-year-old is expected to sign an initial two-year contract, with an option to extend for a third year.
According to reports from COPE and Madrid Xtra, the first of Mourinho’s requests is the signing of 26-year-old Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP. Mourinho, who frequently monitored the player during his time in Portugal, views the Sporting captain as a vital addition to balance the Real Madrid midfield.
Secondly, Mourinho has requested that the club integrate a former Real Madrid player into his coaching staff. This individual is intended to serve as a key liaison between the board and the squad, similar to the role Aitor Karanka fulfilled during Mourinho’s first stint at the club.
While no specific name has been confirmed for this staff position, reports suggest that high-profile former players such as Toni Kroos have been discussed as potential candidates who possess the necessary rapport to bridge the gap between the dressing room and the club’s hierarchy.
The official announcement of Mourinho’s return is expected to follow the conclusion of the current La Liga season, pending the outcome of the club’s upcoming presidential elections.
