“I Will Not Tolerate Criminality” — Peter Obi Links Fuel Subsidy to Corruption
NDC presidential hopeful Peter Obi has vowed not to tolerate any form of criminality if elected president in 2027.
Speaking on Trust TV, Obi described the fuel subsidy regime as “organized crime” against Nigeria, questioning why the country records unusually high fuel consumption compared to nations with similar population sizes.
He noted that Nigeria and Pakistan are of comparable size, yet Nigeria consumes far more fuel.
Obi, who had supported subsidy removal during the 2023 elections, maintained that tackling corruption and inefficiency remains key to fixing the country.
He said: “Subsidy is organized crime and I won’t allow any form of criminality as the President of Nigeria. The amount of fuel they say we consume cannot be consumed by this country, there’s emperical evidence.
“We are about the same as Pakistan, they have more roads and we probably have the same number of vehicles or they have even more yet their fuel consumption is a third of ours, so who is drinking the balance?”
