Rhodes-Vivour Declines Move to NDC, Commits to Remaining in ADC
The 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate for Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has officially announced his decision to opt out of the recent wave of defections to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). Despite being a prominent supporter of Peter Obi, who recently moved from the ADC to the NDC, Rhodes-Vivour confirmed that he is not following his mentor to the new platform.
This announcement comes amid a significant shift in the political landscape following the move of Peter Obi and his prospective 2027 running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the NDC. While many members of the Obidient Movement have transitioned between parties to align with Obi, Rhodes-Vivour clarified that he and his immediate team will remain within the African Democratic Congress to pursue their political goals.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the politician acknowledged the shifting alliances but maintained his stance on party loyalty. He expressed understanding for his colleagues who chose to leave, stating, “To those who have made the difficult decision to move on to a new platform, I offer my genuine respect and best wishes.”
Rhodes-Vivour concluded by emphasizing that his commitment to national progress remains unchanged regardless of party affiliation. Underscoring his decision to stay put, he noted, “These are hard choices, We are all fighting for a better Nigeria, even when our roads diverge. I want to make it clear that I am staying in the ADC.”
