Insecurity: Show leadership or resign – CUPP tells Tinubu

The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has officially backed the House of Representatives Minority Caucus in their recent demand for President Bola Tinubu to either demonstrate effective governance or resign. In a statement released by acting National Chairman Chief Peter Ameh, the coalition aligned itself with the caucus’s ultimatum, insisting that the current administration must immediately address the escalating insecurity and economic hardship gripping the nation.  

CUPP emphasized that leadership is a burden of accountability rather than a privilege, stating, “In a sane clime, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that will help make the lives of the people better should honourably resign.” The coalition further warned that if the government continues to fail in its primary duty to protect citizens and stabilize the economy, the only honorable course of action is to vacate the office for those capable of delivering results.

The endorsement follows a stinging rebuke from the House of Representatives Minority Caucus, led by Hon. Fred Agbedi, which accused the presidency of prioritizing re-election strategies for 2027 over the urgent needs of the country. The opposition lawmakers highlighted the worsening security situation—citing mass abductions and the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in captivity—as evidence of a systemic failure in national leadership.  

The pressure on the administration is mounting as CUPP pledges to keep a close watch on executive actions. The coalition concluded its statement with a direct challenge to the President, urging him to “heed this call and take immediate, visible steps to alleviate the suffering of citizens across the country.”
