Insecurity: Tinubu never promised to perform magic – Oshiomhole
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has publicly defended President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the nation’s security crisis, asserting that the administration never promised immediate results. During a recent interview on the Mic On Podcast, the APC chieftain emphasized that the current wave of violence predates the current government. Challenging critics, he stated, “Did security or insecurity start under this government? Can you put your hand on the bible and say that President Bola Tinubu is not doing enough on security? He’s doing enough.”
Oshiomhole further argued that the government is actively addressing these threats, noting, “He promised to keep Nigerians safe, he didn’t say that he would perform magic. As Commander-In-Chief he’s able to do it.” He cautioned against diminishing the efforts of security personnel who have lost their lives while defending the country, suggesting that such criticism ignores the sacrifices made by those actively confronting criminal elements on the front lines.
The senator’s remarks come as the country grapples with a concerning spike in violent incidents. Recent reports highlight a volatile security environment, including the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State and the tragic death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Nigerian Army spokesman, who passed away while in captivity after being kidnapped in Katsina State.
The ongoing surge in kidnappings and violent crimes continues to fuel public anxiety and political debate regarding the state of national safety. While the government maintains it is dedicating significant resources to the issue, many citizens remain deeply concerned as these incidents continue to affect various regions across the country.
