Tears, tributes as Abia government, Nollywood bid farewell to Alex Ekubo

The community of Ujari in Arochukwu, Abia State, was filled with grief on Thursday as family, friends, and the Nigerian entertainment industry laid beloved actor Alex Ekubo to rest. The 40-year-old star, who passed away following complications from advanced kidney cancer, was celebrated for a career that spanned over a decade and left an indelible mark on African cinema.

Representing Governor Alex Otti, Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba honored the late actor’s legacy during the service. He stated, “The news of Alex’s passing came as a profound shock. Today, we mourn not merely an actor, brother and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honour to Abia State and Nigeria.”

During the funeral, Pastor Eno Jerry Eze delivered a sermon emphasizing that the true value of life is found in the impact one leaves behind. Colleagues including Stan Nze, Ini Edo, and Omoni Oboli joined other dignitaries such as Obi Cubana to pay their final respects. Actress Oluchi Chiana remembered him fondly, noting, “He was a good man, and his passing has left us deeply saddened.”

Ekubo’s burial concluded with tributes celebrating his charisma and professionalism. Beyond his acting talent, he was remembered by state officials as a beacon of inspiration for Abia youths. His contributions to the industry and his dedication to his roots ensure that he will be remembered as a significant cultural figure in Nigeria.
