“I Won’t Campaign If ADC Sidelines South-East” — Kenneth Okonkwo Warns Atiku
Former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may choose its 2027 vice-presidential candidate from the South-South region.
In a post shared on X, Okonkwo described the move as “unfortunate,” arguing that it would further marginalise the South-East, a region he noted has not produced either a president or vice president since 1999.
According to him, denying the South-East both the presidential and vice-presidential slots would amount to an “unpardonable injustice.”
“I did not join the coalition to assist in the further marginalisation of my own people,” he wrote.
The actor-turned-politician said he had urged ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to demonstrate his commitment to fairness by selecting a running mate from the South-East.
Okonkwo also referenced the sacrifices made by key coalition figures, including former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, in building the alliance.
He warned that if reports of a South-South vice-presidential nominee prove true, he would be unwilling to campaign for the ADC ticket in the 2027 election.
“I entered politics to fight for a Nigeria where no region or group is marginalised,” Okonkwo stated, insisting that the South-East deserves representation on the party’s presidential ticket
