“Politicians Are Focused on 2027 While Nigerians Suffer” — Peter Obi

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, accusing political leaders of prioritising the 2027 elections over the safety of citizens.

In a statement on Tuesday, Obi lamented that schoolchildren abducted in Oyo and Borno states remain in captivity weeks after their kidnapping, while government efforts appear focused on announcements rather than results.

He cited recent attacks in Plateau, Kogi, and Anambra states, as well as the abduction of dozens of pupils, teachers, and a school principal in Oyo and Borno, as evidence of the country’s deteriorating security situation.

“Meanwhile, amid all these tragic developments, we politicians remain consumed by the next election,” Obi said.

He described the continued attacks on schools and communities as unacceptable, stressing that such incidents should not be occurring in a nation that is not at war.
