Oyo Teachers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Abducted Colleagues, Pupils

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has commenced an indefinite strike over the continued abduction of teachers and pupils in the state.

In a directive issued by State NUT Chairman, Comrade Hassan Fatai, the union said the industrial action took effect from June 1, 2026, and will continue until further notice.

According to the union, the strike is aimed at pressuring government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.

The NUT urged all teachers to comply with the directive and remain at home throughout the period of the action.

The development comes days after President Bola Tinubu ordered the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to support efforts to rescue the abducted teachers and students.
