CAN Declares June 14 as ‘Black Sunday’ Over Rising Insecurity
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared Sunday, June 14, 2026, as a nationwide “Black Sunday” to honour victims of terrorism and violent attacks across the country.
CAN also announced a three-day national prayer programme from June 12 to June 14, calling on Christians to seek divine intervention amid worsening insecurity.
Speaking after the National Church Denominational Leadership Summit, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh stressed that prayer alone is not enough to address the crisis.
He urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity, establish state police, and decentralise the nation’s security architecture for quicker responses to threats.
CAN also called for the unconditional release of kidnapped victims and justice for those affected by violence across Nigeria.
