2027 Election: Atiku Officially Moves for ADC Ticket with ₦90 Million Form Purchase
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally signaled his intent to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In an official statement released on Saturday via its X handle, the ADC confirmed that the veteran politician has paid for his presidential nomination form and received his official payment receipt. The transaction, documented as Official Receipt No. 2881 and dated Friday, May 8, 2026, shows a payment of ₦90 million made via bank draft.
The ADC framed this development as a historic milestone in Nigeria’s democratic landscape, describing it as “A New Chapter in Nigeria’s Democratic Journey.” The party stated, “H.E. Atiku Abubakar, GCON, has officially received his payment receipt to contest under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 Presidential Election.” This move follows months of political realignment after Atiku’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in late 2025, where he cited irreconcilable internal differences.
Positioning itself as the primary alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the ADC characterized Atiku’s entry into the race as part of a “growing movement for national renewal, democratic inclusion, and people-driven leadership.” The party reiterated its commitment to providing a platform built on unity, economic recovery, and national progress, emphasizing that Nigerians are actively seeking credible alternatives to the status quo. The receipt of payment marks the beginning of the formal screening and nomination cycle within the party’s new coalition framework.
The next administrative step in Atiku’s candidacy is scheduled for early next week at the party’s headquarters. The ADC confirmed that “The formal presentation of nomination forms is expected on Monday at the ADC National Secretariat, Abuja.” As political tensions rise and other heavyweights like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso navigate their roles within the evolving opposition landscape, the ADC concluded its announcement with a cryptic promise of further developments: “The movement is growing. Hope is rising. Expect more.”
