“Did You Compare Their Minimum Wage?” — Isaac Fayose Blasts Reno Omokri Over Fuel Comment
Businessman Isaac Fayose has criticised Reno Omokri over his comparison of fuel prices in the UK and Nigeria.
Omokri had argued that petrol costs about ₦3,200 per litre in the UK, claiming rising fuel prices are a global issue linked to tensions in the Middle East.
Reacting, Fayose questioned whether Omokri considered the difference in minimum wage and living standards between both countries before making the comparison.
His response echoed the reactions of many Nigerians online, who argued that fuel prices should be viewed alongside citizens’ earning power and economic realities.
According to Fayose, “Minimum wage in Nigeria is 70k, so if I’m to buy fuel for N1,400 per litre in a month, I will only be able to use 48 litres of fuel.
“That’s excluding food, accommodation, logistics and every other thing. In the UK, the minimum wage is over 12 pounds per hour.
“An average worker in the UK earns 25,000 pounds a year. That’s about 50 million naira here.
“Meanwhile, N70,000 a year as our minimum wage is less than one million naira. So Mr Omokri, what can I do with 70k in a month?
“Mr Omokri, why don’t you have a brain? You are just saying this to please your master.”
