“I Never Promised to Fix Power in 3 Months” — Nigeria’s new power minister, Tegbe Clarifies Remarks

Power minister-designate Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe has denied reports claiming he promised to fix Nigeria’s electricity grid within three months.

In a statement through his spokesperson, Tegbe said his comments during Senate screening were misrepresented, stressing that he only spoke about beginning stabilisation efforts within his first 100 days in office.

“This claim is a clear misrepresentation of his remarks,” the statement said.

According to the clarification, broader reforms in the power sector could take up to a year and would involve consultations, diagnostics, and stakeholder engagement.

Tegbe also pledged to improve grid stability, expand electricity metering, address gas supply issues, and strengthen accountability in the sector while protecting vulnerable consumers during tariff reforms.
