Wike has always stood by PDP  – Factional chairman, Mohammed

Abdulrahman Mohammed, the acting National Chairman of a factional bloc within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly lauded Nyesom Wike for his unwavering support of the party. Speaking at a factional Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja on Monday, February 2, Mohammed emphasized the need to restore the party’s momentum following the holiday period.

The factional leader expressed deep appreciation for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), identifying him as a cornerstone of the group’s stability. “I want to also extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Leader, the FCT minister for standing by us at all times, we are grateful,” Mohammed stated, reinforcing the strong alliance between his leadership and the influential minister.

The meeting occurs against the backdrop of a significant legal victory for the Mohammed-led group. Just days ago, on January 30, a Federal High Court in Ibadan nullified the PDP’s November 2025 national convention and recognized Mohammed’s caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the party, effectively sacking the rival National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.

Addressing the gathered BoT members, Mohammed signaled that the time for internal consolidation has arrived after the festive pause. “Christmas and New Year break is over. It is high time to focus on the mandate given to us as Caretaker Committee members to put our Party on the right track,” he urged, calling for immediate action to unify the fractured opposition.

The BoT Chairman of the faction, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, echoed this sentiment, backing the Mohammed-led committee as the “legitimate leadership” in compliance with recent court orders. He described the current phase as a “defining moment” and called on party elders to act as anchors of stability to navigate the ongoing leadership tussle that has polarized the party.

Despite the court ruling, the PDP remains deeply divided, with the rival Turaki-led faction dismissing the judgment and signaling its intent to appeal. Mohammed, however, remains resolute, appealing to former presidents, governors, and ministers to view the court’s decision as a “call to duty” to rebuild the party’s structures ahead of future elections.

The factional leadership concluded the meeting with a pledge to organize an all-inclusive national convention to finally resolve the leadership crisis. “We have initially waited for the holidays to be over and now is the time for actions,” Mohammed added, marking a definitive end to the group’s period of observation.
