Portable Remanded in Custody Over Assault and Car Theft Charges

Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, was arraigned on Monday, January 12, 2026, before the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State. He faces a nine-count criminal charge including assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. The charges were confirmed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi.

The arraignment stems from a viral video showing the singer in police custody following a complaint by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple. The prosecution alleges that Portable attacked Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo on New Year’s Day. Named victims in the charge sheet include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, and others.

In addition to the assault allegations, Portable is accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at ₦12 million. The vehicle reportedly belongs to Ileyemi Damilola and is linked to the car dealership Wally Dex Auto. During the proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged New Year’s Day altercation.

The police also alleged that the singer obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, during the execution of her official duties. This particular allegation proved pivotal during the bail hearing, as the presiding judge scrutinized the details of the confrontation between the artist and law enforcement.

The presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail during the initial hearing, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The court maintained that the officer’s presence is required before a ruling on the bail application can be finalized. Consequently, Portable was remanded in custody pending the next stage of the legal process.

Bail consideration has been adjourned to January 19, meaning the “Zazu” crooner will remain in detention for at least another week. The delay has sparked significant conversation online regarding the singer’s recurring legal troubles and his recent public pleas for divine protection.

Meanwhile, a separate investigation has been launched by the Ogun State Police Command into a viral video that appears to show Portable being assaulted while in custody. Authorities have assured the public that any officers found culpable of misconduct during his detention will face appropriate disciplinary action.
