Woman Dies After Kano Hospital Abandoned Scissors In Her During Surgery As Family Demands Justice
A family in Kano State is reeling from the death of Aishatu Umar, who passed away on Monday following months of agony. The mother of five reportedly died after a pair of scissors was allegedly left inside her body during a surgical procedure in September 2025. The operation took place at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center, where she had sought treatment for an undisclosed illness.
Following the initial surgery, Aishatu suffered from persistent and unbearable abdominal pain that lasted for four months. Her brother-in-law, Abubakar Mohammed, revealed that despite multiple return visits to the hospital, staff only administered pain relievers. The family claims that thorough investigations were neglected while her health continued to deteriorate.

“She was living in Kano when she fell ill a few months ago and underwent surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Center in September,” Mohammed said. He noted that the family’s pleas for deeper medical scrutiny were ignored for months while she remained in constant distress.
The grim reality was only uncovered two days before her death when comprehensive scans were finally conducted. The results confirmed that a surgical instrument had been left in her abdomen. “Just two days ago, tests and scans were finally conducted, revealing that a pair of scissors had been left inside her body during the September operation,” Mohammed disclosed.
Medical teams reportedly attempted to prepare Aishatu for a corrective surgery to remove the scissors once the discovery was made. However, her condition had worsened beyond recovery. “Efforts were being made to perform a corrective surgery yesterday, but her time had run out, and she passed away,” the family stated.
The grieving family has labeled the incident as a case of gross professional negligence and is demanding accountability from the facility. “Is this not pure negligence?” Mohammed asked. “Truly, every soul has its appointed time, but how can professional doctors forget scissors inside a patient?”
The family is now calling on the Kano State Government and health regulatory bodies to launch an urgent investigation into the hospital’s practices. “We call on the Kano State Government to investigate and take action,” the family said. “We demand justice for Aishatu Umar.” As of now, the hospital management has not issued an official response.
