Diezani Alison-Madueke Cleared of All Six Bribery Charges in UK Court
Former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been acquitted of all six bribery charges brought against her in a high-profile trial at Southwark Crown Court in London.
Alison-Madueke, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan between 2010 and 2015, faced five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. Prosecutors alleged that she received luxury benefits from oil and gas executives in exchange for favourable treatment in the award of contracts in Nigeria.
The former minister consistently denied the allegations, insisting she neither accepted bribes nor had influence over contract awards.
After more than 46 hours of deliberations, the jury returned unanimous not-guilty verdicts on all six charges, bringing the long-running case to an end.
The ruling represents a significant setback for UK prosecutors, who had pursued the corruption case for over a decade.
Alison-Madueke was tried alongside oil executive Olatimbo Ayinde, who also faced separate bribery-related charges connected to the case. The outcome marks a major legal victory for the former minister, whose tenure was frequently the subject of corruption investigations both in Nigeria and abroad
