“Nigeria’s Absence Is a Big Miss for the World Cup” — John Terry
Former England captain and Chelsea legend John Terry has expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the Super Eagles’ absence as a major loss for the tournament.
Speaking during a virtual roundtable hosted by SuperSport ahead of the World Cup, Terry said the competition would have benefited from the presence of the three-time African champions.
“I have to say quietly because I am currently in South Africa, that Nigeria is going to be a big miss,” Terry said.
The former defender praised Nigeria’s football pedigree and talented players, noting that the Super Eagles remain one of Africa’s most respected national teams.
“I would have loved to have a top side like Nigeria to be there because they have got some great individuals. They are a great nation,” he added.
Nigeria missed out on qualification after falling to the Democratic Republic of Congo in a penalty shootout during the final round of the CAF playoffs, ending hopes of featuring at the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
