BamBam Clarifies Incident at Alexx Ekubo’s Memorial
Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija star BamBam has publicly addressed and debunked viral allegations that her personal assistant (PA) was responsible for the theft of her phone during the service of songs held for the late actor Alexx Ekubo.
After video footage circulated online showing a woman removing an item from BamBam’s bag, social media users erroneously accused the actress’s aide of the theft. In a video response, BamBam clarified that the woman in the clip was merely assisting her with her bag in a crowded environment and was not involved in any wrongdoing.
The actress explained that the theft occurred after the event as she was heading to her car. She noted that she had been using her device throughout the programme, even sharing posts on social media during the event. “We got into the car and I was like, ‘Where is my phone?’ She said, ‘It’s not with me.’ We ransacked my bag; it wasn’t there,” BamBam detailed.
The service of songs, held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, was marred by a series of thefts. Actor Stan Nze, who served as the event’s master of ceremonies, confirmed that over five phones were stolen from attendees, including actress Susan Peters, who reported the loss of her iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Nze expressed deep concern over the incident, noting that the situation became so chaotic that organisers briefly restricted movement at the venue in a desperate attempt to recover the stolen items. He condemned the act, questioning the moral values of individuals who would exploit a solemn, grief-stricken gathering for criminal gain.
Alexx Ekubo, who passed away on May 11, 2026, following a private battle with metastatic kidney cancer, is scheduled to be laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, on June 18, 2026.
