Oyo State Governor Provides Update on Kidnapped Students and Teachers

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has provided a critical update regarding the students and teachers kidnapped 27 days ago from Oriire Local Government Area, confirming that intelligence reports place the abductees within the vast Old Oyo National Park. In his latest newsletter, the Governor addressed the ongoing distress of the affected families, assuring them that securing the safe return of the victims remains his administration’s top priority. He acknowledged that the sheer scale of the park, which spans approximately 2,500 square kilometres across ten local government areas, creates significant operational difficulties for security forces attempting a rescue.

Governor Makinde emphasized that authorities are pursuing every credible lead and deploying all necessary strategic measures to ensure a successful outcome despite the challenging terrain. He urged the public to remain vigilant and utilize the state’s toll-free emergency number, 615, to report any suspicious activities that might assist in the investigation. Furthermore, the Governor issued a stern warning against the circulation of unverified information, noting that misinformation can severely compromise delicate security operations and endanger the lives of the hostages. He concluded by asking residents to continue supporting security agencies with actionable information and to keep the victims in their prayers as rescue efforts intensify.
