Amaechi Withdraws ADC Presidential Primary Suit

The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a legal challenge filed by Rotimi Amaechi against former vice president Atiku Abubakar. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik issued the order after Amaechi’s lawyer, Jibrin Okutepa, SAN, formally requested to withdraw the case following an amicable settlement between the parties.

Amaechi had originally sought to overturn the results of the May 25 ADC presidential primary, which declared Abubakar the winner. The former governor alleged that the election breached electoral laws and party guidelines, specifically citing concerns over the membership register and the validity of the final results.

In his suit, Amaechi argued that the process was flawed because “the membership registered was not used for the election.” He further contended that the declaration of results was “totally unsigned, with no column for signatures and names of the election committee members who authored them.”

With the parties now having resolved their differences, the litigation has officially come to an end. This dismissal clears the way for Atiku Abubakar to continue his campaign as the recognized presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 general elections.
