Nigeria Should Cut Diplomatic Ties With South Africa” — Senator Ningi Over Xenophobic Attacks

Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has called on the Federal Government to immediately sever diplomatic relations with South Africa over the continued xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in the country.

Speaking during plenary at the Senate on Tuesday, Ningi expressed outrage over the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa, arguing that repeated condemnations by authorities have failed to stop the violence.

“End whatsoever diplomatic relations with South Africa. Nigerians have been killed left, right, and centre, and there has never been any action except to condemn it by mouth,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that more than 1,200 Nigerians are currently being evacuated from South Africa following the latest wave of attacks, questioning the effectiveness of the government’s response.

According to Ningi, no Nigerian deserves to be attacked, killed, or subjected to mob violence, regardless of the allegations against them.

“Don’t Nigerians deserve to live in other countries? Even if they are criminal, are they supposed to be killed in that manner?” he asked.

The senator urged the Nigerian government to take stronger diplomatic measures to protect its citizens abroad, insisting that the recurring attacks have gone on for too long without meaningful consequences.
