Tragedy in Borno: Terrorists Abduct Students During Exam

Terrorists suspected to be affiliated with Boko Haram and ISWAP launched a violent attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, this morning. The assailants stormed the premises at approximately 9 a.m. while students were sitting for their National Examinations Council (NECO) papers.

The attack triggered widespread panic as gunmen fired sporadically, killing one teacher during the chaos. Following the assault, the terrorists abducted an unspecified number of students, forcing them into an unknown location.

Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso confirmed the incident, stating, “At about 9 a.m., an unspecified number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air. During the attack, an unspecified number of students were abducted, while some are still missing.”

Local authorities are currently working to determine the exact number of students taken, though many remain unaccounted for at this time. This is the second major abduction in the region recently, occurring just 47 days after 42 pupils were seized from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in the same local government area.

Those 42 pupils, some as young as two years old, have not yet been released. The repeated nature of these attacks has deepened the atmosphere of fear for residents and families in Askira/Uba.

The situation remains fluid as security forces continue to assess the scale of the abduction and the aftermath of the raid. Further details regarding the status of the missing students are expected as investigations proceed.
