DJ Switch slams First Lady Remi Tinubu over advice to poor Nigerians to start ‘Akara, Kuli-Kuli’ business
DJ Switch has publicly condemned First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for advising struggling citizens to engage in low-income trades like selling akara, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli. The activist’s reaction follows the First Lady’s recent press briefing, where Mrs. Tinubu defended the administration’s economic interventions and highlighted the distribution of grants meant to foster grassroots empowerment.
The activist, known for her role during the #EndSARS protests, strongly rejected this approach as both outdated and restrictive. She argued that while the First Lady frames these petty trading suggestions as a path toward poverty alleviation, such advice fails to address the modern economic needs of the Nigerian populace.
Highlighting the disparity between Nigeria and more progressive nations, DJ Switch pointed out that other countries are actively prioritizing the development of high-value digital skills for their citizens. She contended that Nigeria’s leadership should be focusing on technological advancement rather than encouraging a cycle of subsistence-level labor.
In her critique, the activist warned that pushing the population toward low-yield retail roles does not constitute a viable long-term strategy for economic growth. She maintained that the current leadership vision is fundamentally limiting and fails to equip Nigerians to succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy.
