“You Don’t Expect Tinubu to Wear Khaki and Fight Terrorists Himself” — Pastor Adeboye Defends President

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, insisting that the President has fulfilled his role as Commander-in-Chief by giving directives to security agencies.

Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, D.C., Adeboye said it was unfair to blame Tinubu for not personally confronting terrorists on the battlefield.

“I don’t support those accusing the President of not doing enough. When the Commander-in-Chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to put on khaki and go and fight,” he said.

The cleric, however, acknowledged that insecurity has worsened, with terrorism and kidnapping spreading from northern Nigeria to parts of the South.

Adeboye revealed that he had advised President Tinubu to give military chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorism or resign from their positions.

“I told him to tell the army, navy and air force: You have 90 days. Wipe out this rubbish or resign,” he stated.

The RCCG leader also called for decisive action against individuals allegedly sponsoring terrorism, arguing that tackling financiers and suppliers of weapons is crucial to ending the violence.

According to him, some of the sponsors are influential politicians and businessmen who are known to authorities but remain untouched.

He further urged the international community, particularly the United States, to support Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism and restoring security across the country
