Amotekun arrested a couple over burglary at former Speaker Jumoke Akindele’s home in Ondo, recovering seven stolen phones.
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested a couple, 28-year-old Samson Osowe and his 22-year-old wife, Ayo Oguneso, for allegedly burglarizing the Okitipupa country home of Jumoke Akindele, the former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Following the burglary, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, operatives tracked seven stolen mobile phones and various personal effects to a transporter who was preparing to move the goods to Lagos for sale. The Amotekun Corps successfully intercepted the items and apprehended the couple along with an accomplice involved in the transportation chain.
The Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that all stolen items have been recovered and that the suspects will be arraigned in court shortly. He noted that the agency is continuing its investigation into the matter and will release the recovered items to the former Speaker on bond.
Jumoke Akindele praised the swift response and “heroic efforts” of the Amotekun Corps, stating that she was “awed by their dexterity, their determination, their bravery and commitment to duty.” In light of the incident, the former Speaker reiterated her support for the establishment of state police in Nigeria, arguing that the effectiveness of the Amotekun Corps serves as a compelling case for the necessity of such a constitutional reform.
The suspects remain in the custody of the Amotekun Corps as the agency continues to look into broader security concerns in the Okitipupa Local Council Area.
