Peter Obi copy-and-paste politician, can’t compete with Tinubu – Presidency

The Presidency has launched a scathing attack on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, further heightening the political atmosphere ahead of the upcoming election cycle. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday to dismiss Obi’s political viability.

Onanuga characterized Obi as a “copy-and-paste” politician, arguing that he lacks the original vision necessary to lead the country. Contrasting the two figures’ past tenures as state governors, Onanuga claimed that while President Tinubu developed a long-term rail and road masterplan for Lagos—a blueprint he asserts is still being implemented—Obi’s legacy in Anambra remains underwhelming.

“Peter Obi has never shown original, authentic thinking. He is a copy-and-paste politician,” Onanuga wrote. He further cited former Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano, alleging that Obi “failed spectacularly in providing security in the state.”

The statement serves as a direct rebuttal to the mounting criticism from the NDC and the broader coalition of opposition parties. Onanuga emphasized a clear hierarchy in political capability, asserting, “Nigeria deserves a leader who can see beyond the ken of the ordinary people, a leader who is a proven deep thinker and doer. Peter Obi is no match for President Bola Tinubu. They are not on the same level.”

This latest confrontation follows a period of heightened activity by the opposition, which has recently intensified its critique of the administration’s economic and fiscal policies. As the 2027 election cycle gathers momentum, the rhetoric from both the Presidency and the opposition continues to harden, underscoring the deepening divide within the Nigerian political landscape.
