‘Fake news’ – FG speaks on suspension of tax laws

The Federal Government has denied reports that it has suspended the release of implementation guidelines for the newly introduced tax laws.

Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, dismissed the claims in a post on X on Thursday, describing them as fake news. His response comes amid widespread speculation that the government had paused the rollout of the tax reform guidelines.

The tax laws, which took effect about two weeks ago, have sparked controversy, with calls for their suspension from groups including the Nigeria Labour Congress and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

However, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, has ruled out any suspension of the tax laws, stating in a recent TV interview that the reforms are designed to benefit Nigerians.
