Deregistration: NDC case orchestrated, filed two days after Peter Obi joined party — Rufai Oseni

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has characterized the recent legal challenges against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a calculated attempt to weaken the political opposition. Speaking on The Morning Show, Oseni noted the suspicious timing of the litigation, which surfaced shortly after Peter Obi’s move to the party.

Highlighting the timeline of these events, Oseni stated, “Peter Obi officially went to the NDC on the 3rd of May. The case was filed on the 5th of May by yet again another, you know, faceless group.” He argued that this pattern mirrors previous efforts to destabilize other opposition groups.

Oseni dismissed the legitimacy of the legal action, remarking that the court proceedings “falls flat on its face again.” He expressed deep concern that these maneuvers are part of a broader, systemic effort to create barriers for opposition candidates before the 2027 general elections.

The broadcaster directly appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain impartial and avoid becoming entangled in the controversy. He urged the commission to “please give them the issuance code” so that the party can finalize its necessary documentation without further obstruction.

Warning against the potential consequences of these actions, Oseni emphasized that such tactics threaten the integrity of the democratic process. He cautioned, “If you are confident, let opposition into the race. Don’t hold them back. Don’t do anything.”

Ultimately, Oseni maintained that the sequence of events is not coincidental but rather a sign of coordinated political manipulation. He concluded, “There’s a grand attempt to ensure that opposition is weakened before the election, write it down. Grand attempt.”
