Tinubu Appoints Former UNILAG VC Ogundipe as NUC Board Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, as the new Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The appointment was announced in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Monday.

Ogundipe succeeds Emeritus Professor Olufemi Aina, who resigned from the position less than a year after his appointment in 2025.

A renowned botanist and academic administrator, Ogundipe served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022 and currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State.

The 66-year-old scholar holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and has built a distinguished career in research, university administration, and scientific development.

As chairman of the NUC governing board, Ogundipe is expected to provide strategic leadership for Nigeria’s university system, focusing on funding, academic quality, institutional stability, and global competitiveness.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the former UNILAG vice-chancellor would strengthen reforms in the higher education sector and enhance the credibility and quality of Nigerian universities.
