Wike Hails Tinubu’s “Fatherly” Intervention as Path to Final Peace in Rivers
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong optimism that the long-standing political crisis in Rivers State is nearing a permanent end following a fresh intervention by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, after inspecting several infrastructure projects in Abuja, Wike described the President as a unifying figure whose mediation was necessary to resolve the friction between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly.
“I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the president will be bothered with this issue and that this will be the last time the Rivers people will need to hear this kind of discord,” the minister stated.
Wike underscored the weight of the President’s counsel, suggesting that the directives given during the late-night meeting at the Presidential Villa must be strictly followed by all parties involved.
“The president is the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children must listen and do the needful to ensure peace and progress,” he said, framing the resolution as a matter of national and regional stability.
Regarding the specific expectations of the truce, Wike expressed confidence that both the legislative and executive arms would now play their respective roles to sustain the peace.
“The House of Assembly will do what they are supposed to do, and I am confident that the governor will also carry out the acts required of him to ensure this peace is sustainable,” he added.
The minister concluded by thanking President Tinubu for his tireless commitment to the state, emphasizing that the primary goal is for Rivers to move forward and focus on development rather than political infighting.
