Adeleke Wins Second Term as Osun Governor
Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured a second term in office after winning the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The incumbent, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished a distant third with 17,180 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas.
The victory means Adeleke will remain in office for another four years, following his first victory in the 2022 election.
Celebrations have since erupted among Adeleke’s supporters and members of his family. Afrobeat superstar Davido, Adeleke’s nephew, was also captured in a celebratory mood following his uncle’s victory.
The election marks another significant political contest ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with the Osun poll closely watched as a test of the country’s electoral process and the strength of the major political parties.
