“I Won’t Promise Nigerians 24-Hour Electricity in Four Years, it’s impossible” — Peter Obi
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he will not promise Nigerians uninterrupted electricity within four years if elected president, describing such a pledge as unrealistic.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Obi explained that while fixing Nigeria’s power sector would be a top priority, achieving nationwide 24-hour electricity in a single four-year term is impossible because building power plants and expanding transmission infrastructure takes years.
Rather than make what he called empty promises, the former Anambra State governor said his administration would focus on significantly improving electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. He also pledged to ensure the country consistently generates and delivers at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity while addressing debts owed to power generation companies to restore investor confidence.
Obi cited the Geometric Power project in Aba as a model for embedded power generation that can be replicated across Nigeria’s industrial hubs to improve electricity supply. He maintained that leadership should be based on realistic commitments and measurable results rather than promises that cannot be fulfilled
