“Tinubu’s Government Is Running Nigeria’s Most Dangerous Budget Cycle” — BudgIT Co-founder, Seun Onigbinde
Budget transparency advocate and BudgIT co-founder, Seun Onigbinde, has described the Tinubu administration as operating the most dangerous budget cycle in Nigeria’s history.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Onigbinde expressed concern over the government’s management of the 2024 to 2026 budgets, which have a combined value of ₦152.09 trillion.
He argued that the administration has failed to prioritize capital projects, warning that inadequate investment in infrastructure and development could undermine the country’s long-term economic growth.
According to Onigbinde, effective budget implementation requires greater focus on projects that drive productivity and improve public services, rather than recurrent spending.
“I always feel that they have not prioritised capital projects
“It is fair to say that this is the most dangerous budget cycle that we have monitored,” he said.
He added that the Federal Government removed the fuel subsidy and devalued the currency without fully understanding the wider implications for debt servicing.
“There have been bad managers of the fiscal policies of this country. They removed the subsidy and devalued the currency, and they did not properly understand the wider implications of that on debt service,” he said.
