ADC Chieftain Predicts APC Defeat in 2027 Integrity Test
Ladan Salihu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress will face a major crisis of confidence in the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics,’ Salihu argued that the current administration’s track record will not withstand public scrutiny. He suggested that the upcoming polls will serve as a definitive assessment of the government’s honesty and performance.
The ADC leader believes that the prevailing mood of the country will play a decisive role in the next electoral cycle. He claimed that the APC-led government under President Bola Tinubu will struggle to overcome the deep-seated dissatisfaction among the electorate. Salihu noted: “When it comes to credible elections and elections that are based on integrity, this government will fail the integrity test at the polls.”
According to Salihu, the disconnect between government policy and the lived experience of citizens has reached a breaking point. He suggested that the administration is underestimated the level of public discontent regarding the current economic and social climate. He added: “This government will not measure up with the anger and the frustrations of the Nigerian people.”
The interview also touched on the leadership of the nation’s electoral body, with Salihu echoing calls for a change at the top of the commission. He argued that for the 2027 elections to be viewed as legitimate, the umpire must be seen as beyond reproach. Specifically, he renewed the demand for the removal of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, over allegations of partisan bias.
Salihu was blunt in his assessment of the Chairman’s standing in the eyes of the opposition and the general public. He remarked: “Amupitan should resign or should be removed because in public service today, Amupitan to me is the number one persona non grata because he has failed the integrity test.” He maintained that the Chairman has not demonstrated the neutrality required to lead a credible process for over 250 million Nigerians.
In response to these recurring criticisms, the Independent National Electoral Commission has continued to defend its leadership. The commission has formally denied all allegations of bias, insisting that Prof. Amupitan remains a neutral and committed umpire. Despite these assurances, the ADC chieftain insists that a celebrate-worthy election is impossible under the current structural leadership of the commission.
