Alleged stolen N34 trillion: Dino Melaye demands reasons for Edun’s sack
President Bola Tinubu has officially removed Wale Edun from his position as the Minister of Finance. In a sudden reshuffle announced on Tuesday, the presidency named Taiwo Oyedele as his immediate replacement. Despite the high-profile nature of the change, the government has remained silent regarding the specific reasons for the shake-up.
Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, took to social media to challenge the lack of transparency. Melaye argued that the Nigerian public deserves a full explanation for such a significant cabinet shift. He noted that in organized democracies, the government is expected to provide clear justifications for sacking top officials.
The former senator specifically questioned if the dismissal was linked to financial discrepancies within the administration. He raised concerns about whether Edun failed to conceal missing national funds. Melaye pointed to a massive sum of diverted revenue as a potential catalyst for the President’s decision.
Writing on his Facebook page, Melaye stated: “Mr President, when Ministers are sacked in civilised climes, the government must explain why they are sacked.” This demand for accountability highlights the growing pressure on the presidency to address the rumors surrounding the ministry.
He further pushed for answers regarding specific figures by asking: “Was the minister of Finance removed because he could not cover up the stolen 24 billion dollars (34 trillion naira) diverted from our revenue?” Melaye suggested that international financial data might eventually reveal the truth behind the situation.
The post concluded with a sharp reference to global financial oversight, as Melaye wrote: “World Bank no dey lie. SDM”. As of now, the presidency has not responded to these allegations or provided further context on the reshuffle.
