2027: Bag of Rice, Spaghetti will not secure legitimacy at the ballot box – Atiku tells Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said distributing food items like rice and spaghetti will not guarantee President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

In a statement, Atiku warned that Nigeria’s democracy is being weakened by what he described as a growing concentration of power, alleging that key institutions and political structures are being tilted in favour of the ruling party.

He argued that despite the APC’s dominance, there is visible fear of genuine electoral competition, stressing that “stomach infrastructure” cannot replace public trust.

Atiku also raised concerns over alleged intimidation of opposition figures, internal party disruptions, and questionable judicial actions, warning that Nigeria risks sliding into a one-party system if the trend continues.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend democratic values, insisting that leadership must be determined by the will of the people, not manipulation or coercion.
