Our Recession will be Shortlived- Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that the Federal government is confident that with the intervention policies, with the fiscal and monetary interventions have been put in place, the current economic recession will be short-lived.

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS had two days ago said that Nigeria’s economy has slipped into another recession, the second time since 2016.

Speaking during an interview with NTA today November 25, Mohammed said the recession is inevitable due to the global collapse in oil prices occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic. He said other countries like Finland, Hungary, Spain, and others have gone into recession due to the fall in the price of crude oil worldwide.

“It is true we are in a recession. Recession comes when a country records two consecutive quarters of negative growths. But we must go beyond that to understand that despite that, our economy is still very well in circumstances.

The main reason why we have entered into this recession is the oil sector. The oil sector recorded -13.89% and that is the worst in 14 quarters. Of course, it is easy to understand why; with the pandemic, there is low demand for oil…but when you look at the non-oil sector which is about -2.51 % in Q3, it is far better than what it was in the Q2.

Overall, yes, we are in a recession and it is inevitable but while our Q2 result was -6.1%, South Africa was -50% and as we speak today, Finland, Hungary, Spain, Mexico, Russia, Romania, Belgium, Austria have all fallen into recession.

But we are very confident that with the intervention policies, with the fiscal and monetary interventions the government has put in place, the recession will be short-lived.” he said

  1. Not only to in place all these things, what we need is physical execution, because if you continue putting it in place for how long. We need quick intervention in order to save our economy from another recession.

  2. Which policies are you talking about, is it one the national assembly and festus keyamo didn’t understand one another or which one? You just like talking talking.

  3. How many years do you want to use put your policies together not to talk of executing them, I don’t think this government has something to offer.

  4. We are already in recession not slip to it because some of the state governors have been lamenting about the allocation that is coming from federation account that they can’t pay salaries anymore. What do we call that?

  5. Why won’t the country be in recession when we depend solely on oil.. Other aspect of our economy is been neglected

  6. the more Lai Mohammed talks, the more the vexation of the people. To recede is to go down in flow. The question is, when will the economy go up again? How is it going to happen? Those who run kitchen cabinet are men of darkness. I don’t know what vision they have. Any vision, that is what you are seeing, you can not write down for others to read and run the vision amounts to deception with darkness. We have spent so long time in darkness under dark leadership. When will men of light lead Nigeria? Whoever cares to know, give the Igbos the chance, Nigeria will become a heaven on earth. Killings will stop everywhere and the economy will experience a supernatural lift. Choose a man that fears God, meek but courageous, and see what Nigeria will be shortly. choose with all sincerity if you love Nigeria, a man of descent character, diplomatic, has no corruption stain and love humanity. As for Buhari and his team, they are retired for life and have nothing new. No retired or passive Nigerian should be allowed to be president anymore. Else, instead of creating new front, he will return to old front mates, thereby causing recession.

  7. Must you put your mouth in everything both the ones you know and the ones you don’t know anything about
