Five Abuja Residents arrested over prank of contracting Coronavirus
The Federal Capital Territory FCT Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested five Abuja residents who had visited the Wuse district hospital after reportedly claiming that one of them had coronavirus which according to them was a prank. Director of Public Health in the FCT, Dr Josephine Okechukwu who disclosed this during the parade of the suspects said the FCT and indeed the country is free of the coronavirus as there is no confirmed case of the disease anywhere in Nigeria. The US house of representatives says it will soon establish a “no ban act” against the immigrant visa ban of President Donald Trump. Trump had added Nigeria to the list of banned countries alongside six other countries. The ban did not apply to other US visas such as those for official, business, tourism and student travel. Reacting, Nancy Pelosi, US speaker, said Trump’s travel ban undermines the US global leadership, constitution and heritage. Container-laden Truck falls in Lagos, kills Woman ― LASEMA
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director-General. Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said an accident which involved a 40ft container-laden articulated vehicle had claimed one life while two people sustained injuries in Ogudu, Lagos. Presidency sets Committee to tackle U.S. Visa Ban
Nigerian government has created a committee to address the issues that led to a suspension of U.S. immigrant visas to its citizens, the president’s office said on Saturday. Nigeria was among six countries, four of them in Africa, added to a visa ban announced on Friday in a presidential proclamation. U.S. officials said the countries failed to meet U.S. security and information-sharing standards, which necessitated the new restrictions.

Buhari confirms appointment of new SGOF
President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed the appointment of Mr Taiwo Adeniran as the Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGOF). Mr Abu Michael, Head of Press and Public Relations, office of the SGOF, made this known in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja. According to Michael, the appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by Mr Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing dated on the 29th of Jan, 2020. “The appointment is for a term of four years in the first instance and is renewable upon satisfactory performance,” the letter said.
