Two Islamic clerics bag 22 years imprisonment for raping four girls
A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Minna, Niger State, on Monday August 17, sentenced two brothers, Hassan Bilyaminu and Abdullahi Biliyaminu, who are Islamic clerics, to 22 years imprisonment for raping four girls who were students in their Islamic school in Minna, the state capital. The suspects were arrested earlier this month and were dragged to the court by the police on two counts charges which include sexual assault and act of gross indecency. An 8-year-old boy was scarred with hot iron by his aunt because he ate the 50 Naira groundnut she left in the house. Bayelsa Election: Tribunal nullifies election of Duoye Diri, orders fresh poll
The Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal on Monday nullified the election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to order a fresh election within 90 days. The verdict follows the petition by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) challenging the victory of Governor Diri in the November 19 governorship election. The party claimed that they were unlawfully excluded from the election. The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) in Kano State, have applauded the death sentence handed to 22-year-old Yahaya Sharif-Aminu over an alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
