EndSARS memorial: Nigeria dealing with highest level of corruption, impunity – Mr Macaroni

Nigerian skit maker and activist, Adebowale Debo Adedayo, famously known as Mr Macaroni has stated that Nigeria is currently dealing with the highest level of corruption and impunity.

He made the assertion in a post to mark the remembrance of victims of the October 20, 2020, Lekki Toll Gate massacre.

DAILY POST reports that thousands of Nigerian youths had staged a nationwide protest to demand the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, a unit of the Nigeria Police Force with a long record of abuse of citizens.

The peaceful protest which started on October 8, 2020 with hashtag #EndSARS, ended in nationwide mourning on the night of October 20, 2020, after the use of live ammunition by the military on the protesters led to the death of many youths.

Marking the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS memorial on Tuesday, Macaroni rated the current situation of the country as the highest level of corruption and impunity.

“Years later! We are still dealing with insecurity, hunger, poverty, lack of proper health care and the highest level of corruption and impunity. The saddest part is that we are even more divided as a people at a time when we should be most united.

“I hope one day we truly realize the power that we have as citizens and stop allowing a few selfish individuals to destroy the success and prosperity of the majority of us. Till then, peace and love.”
