Messi plays first football game after father’s death
Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, on Wednesday night, played his first game for Inter Miami since his father died.
Jorge Messi passed on at the age of 68 following a battle with illness.
Messi was introduced as a substitute in the 46th minute of their Leagues Cup clash against Club Leon.
The 38-year-old came on to a loud ovation from fans inside the stadium.
However, Messi failed to produce his usual magic as Miami lost 3-2.
The result means they have now been eliminated from the knockout stages of the tournament, their win over Atletico San Luis and a prior loss to CF Monterrey.
Inter Miami reached the final of last year’s tournament and won the 2023 edition of the Leagues Cup.
