Ubi Franklin Opens Up on Depression and Suicide Attempts After Divorce

Nigerian music executive Ubi Franklin has revealed that he battled severe depression and made multiple suicide attempts following the collapse of his marriage to Nollywood actress Lilian Esoro. Speaking on his podcast, Talks with Ubi Franklin, he recounted the emotional toll of the split and the painful moments leading up to their wedding.

Reflecting on their initial engagement in 2015, Franklin described how Esoro surprisingly failed to show up to their celebration dinner after getting cold feet. Although they eventually reconciled and married, the union ultimately ended in divorce, pushing him into one of the darkest periods of his life.

Describing his struggles, Franklin recalled an incident where “I bought a red CLA, and I drove that car to Third Mainland Bridge to go and commit suicide,” noting that his cousin, Omini Stitches, intervened and saved him. He admitted feeling completely overwhelmed at the time, wondering, “What have I done to deserve all of this?”

Despite the pain, Franklin shared that he and Esoro chose to avoid public fights and maintained a healthy co-parenting relationship for the sake of their son, whom he called his greatest blessing. Concluding his message to viewers, he advised, “If you’re watching this and you’re going through something, whatever happens to your marriage or your relationship, it’s not the end of life.”
