Yoruba Nollywood Veteran Taiwo Adeshina ‘Elegbeje Ado’ Dies

The Yoruba film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Taiwo Adeshina, widely recognized by his stage name, Elegbeje Ado. His passing was officially confirmed on Tuesday through a tribute posted on Instagram by fellow actor Kunle Afod.

Adeshina reportedly passed away on Monday, June 29, following a brief illness. Reflecting on his impact, Afod wrote, “We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado. Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten.”

With a career spanning over two decades, the late actor became a household name for his mastery of culturally significant roles, often portraying traditional rulers and community elders. His iconic performance in the film that earned him the moniker “Elegbeje Ado” solidified his status as a legendary figure among fans of Yoruba cinema.

Outside of his successful acting career, Adeshina was a committed Christian minister, balancing his dedication to the arts with his pastoral responsibilities. His death is viewed as a significant loss to both the entertainment community and his congregation.
