Bello El-Rufai Accuses ICPC of Denying Detained Father Food and Medical Access

Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) of denying his detained father access to food and medical care.

According to Bello, his father’s personal doctor visited the ICPC facility at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15, to review recent medical test results but was completely blocked by officials.

He maintained that the agency’s refusal to let the physician see his father directly flouted a clear court order granting the former governor unrestricted access to his doctors.

Further frustration occurred later that evening when the former governor’s wife attempted to deliver his dinner but was turned away by security personnel.

“Second, his wife, Aunty Aichatou, brought his evening meal at around 7pm as she normally does. ICPC personnel turned her away, saying they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30pm, ‘ he wrote.

Condemning the restrictions amidst his father’s ongoing nine-count charge of alleged advance fee fraud and money laundering, he declared, “We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol,”
