2027: Tinubu wants to relocate Nigeria’s capital from Abuja —Timi Frank claims
Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has leveled serious allegations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming a strategic plot exists to relocate Nigeria’s federal capital from Abuja to Lagos following a potential re-election in 2027. In a statement released on Monday, March 23, 2026, Frank characterized the current administration’s trajectory as a “Lagos-centric agenda” that systematically marginalizes other regions of the federation.
Frank argued that the President’s long-term plan involves concentrating both political and economic power in Lagos. He claimed that federal appointments and major development initiatives have been disproportionately skewed to benefit Lagos State, warning that this trend is undermining national unity. “It is now clear that the President’s long-term plan is to concentrate political and economic power in Lagos if given another term in office,” Frank stated, adding that he believes there is a deliberate strategy to economically weaken the North, South-South, and Southeast ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
The former APC chieftain challenged the administration to show balanced regional investment, asking, “Where are Tinubu’s MOUs tied to agricultural and livestock production in the North, industrial development in the Southeast, and oil and gas development in the South-South? None!” He further accused the administration of dividing the country along ethnic and regional lines more than any other in Nigeria’s history, leading to a “deeply troubling” sense of alienation among citizens.
It is important to note that the Presidency has historically dismissed such claims as “baseless” and “politically motivated.” When similar rumors surfaced in early 2024 following the relocation of certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos, the government clarified that there were no plans to move the capital, emphasizing that Abuja’s status is constitutionally protected.
Frank’s allegations come amid a period of high political tension and significant realignment within the opposition. He concluded his statement by urging Nigerians to reject what he described as a “one-sided” presidency that prioritizes a specific regional interest over the collective stability and prosperity of the entire nation.
